I'm here to share the work of my oldest daughter with all of you. Over the years she has helped to create some of our printables and now she's working on her own projects.

Caitlin loves watercolor and oil painting. Truely, any creative medium sparks her imagination and sends her off to make the most beautiful sketches, paintings, sculptures, and embroidery projects. I'll be sharing more of her work here on this blog so stay tuned for some exciting projects she has showcasing the saints and other religious subjects.

You can support the work of this budding young artist by purchasing a printable, sharing this post, or simply leave an encouraging comment.

Most of all I pray you are blessed and encouraged in your faith by her talent.

On to the interview!

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">What is your name and where are you from?

I'm Monica Skrzypczak, from Rockford, IL!

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">How did you end up creating sacred art? Did you start out with a desire to do that or were you eventually lead in that direction?

I've always loved painting, and as I went through college studying theatre management, I began to realize how important being an artist was to me. As my classes focused less and less on art, a hole started opening in my heart. At the same time, my faith was growing tremendously and I actively wanted a relationship with God.
It all came together the summer between junior and senior year when I didn't get the internship I was hoping for, and ended up at home, working for my grandparent's business.
I was crushed; it seemed that all my college education was crashing down and I would never make it in theatre.
This was the first time in my life I started going to daily Mass daily, and praying a daily holy hour. With no classes to mess with my schedule I said, why not ramp up to full speed? And without really realizing it, I began to want to use my artistic talent for God specifically, instead of just painting what I thought was pretty.
I painted my first tabernacle painting that summer ('Easter Lilies for the King'), and I went, here is a subject matter that will never grow old. I ended up wishing I could be an artist again, but still thought it was an outrageous desire. But going into senior year, my heart started to not care as much for the culture of theatre, so I applied to be a missionary, aaaand I wasn't accepted. I was suddenly in the same place I was the year before - jobless and without a clue as to what I wanted to do.
I went on a pilgrimage to Poland that summer and everything clicked. I was presented with stunning church after stunning church and the thought to be an artist came back full force. I knew we needed sacred artists in America, and if was in God's Will, I wanted to be one of them. After I came home I started working on an Etsy, with the intent of still getting a real job in theatre, but as the process continued, I realized I absolutely love running a small business and this is exactly where Jesus wants me right now!

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">What medium/s do you work with?

I primarily work in oil paints at the moment, but in the past have loved watercolors. And for the statue restorations I use acrylic paints.

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;"><span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="color: #202124; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">Do yo<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="color: #202124; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">u have a favorite or patron saint? Who inspires your work?

Bl. Carlo Acutis is the patron of the shop! This kid was incredible. As the first millennial saint, he knew modern technology, but steadfastly but it on the back burner in favor for prayer and encountering others with the love of Christ (something I fail at constantly). But most importantly, he had a huge devotion to the Eucharist and compiled a list of all the Eucharistic miracles into a website (in the early 2000's).
I came upon this website ages ago when I was still in highschool and reading through the miracles changed my heart for understanding the Real Presence, which in turn is why painting tabernacles, monstrances, and the Mass has enamored me this whole time, and why adoration is a pillar of my prayer life. I proceeded to forget the website until after college a guy at a retreat was passing out his Servant of God cards and story and I recognized the miracles website. I had no idea it was made by a kid, much less a soon-to-be saint.
And then to top it off, I randomly chose Oct 12 as the launch date for Outpouring of Trust, and was always embarrassed because it wasn't a big feast day, BUT it turns out that two years later, in 2020, Carlo was beatified and his feast day is now Oct. 12. How crazy is that. God is so good.

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">Do you have a favorite historical artist or period?

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">

Presently the Renaissance is my favorite, particularly the Counter-Reformation artwork. This is when art turned from stylized humans to the full-bodied beautiful Caravaggio and Michelangelo saints, and when sacred art was revisited in the Council of Trent, reaffirming it's value and necessity in aiding prayer and teaching the faithful, while also creating guidelines for artists to use to create works suitable for sacred spaces.
Also Bellini. Bellini is my favorite painter. I've done 4 master copy studies of his paintings of the Madonna and Child and have one more to go, and let me just say, I have never seen Mary depicted so serenely and so humanly. She looks like a teenager. She looks like a queen. She looks like a mother. Somehow all at once. And Jesus looks like a real, floppy baby, a crawling away baby, a can't-hold-my-head-up, fully human baby. The combination with a strikingly peaceful Mary clearly marks the baby as Jesus, even though there is nothing Divine showing out, in contrast to the past when artists would depict the baby Jesus as a tiny man symbolizing Him as fully God.
On that note, I've been doing little 5x7 master copy studies of a bunch of Renaissance artists, so if you want to see which artists I'm most inspired by, that's a list! Not tackled yet (because they're too good, and it's hard to get good scans of their paintings to study) are Caravaggio and Bouguereau. Talk about perfect use of composition, symbolism, models, brush technique, and color mixing.

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">It's kind of silly to ask an artist what their favorite color is, but are there colors you are more drawn to?

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">

This is my favorite question, and I'll counter it with a really nerdy answer. A mix of cadmium red and burnt umber creates the most beautiful dark crimson that brightens a shadow in the face and between fingers without adding black and is perfect for a deep red in Mary's dresses. I can't get enough of it.
But if I were to just pick a color, blue is my favorite.

<span face=""Google Sans", Roboto, Arial, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #202124; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.1px;">Do you have a website? I also have a Patreon where I'm sharing all the behind the scenes for my upcoming series on the titles of Mary in the Litany of Loreto; all 49 of them. It'll take me a long while to get to the finished paintings and there's a ton of research and sketching and model hiring I hope to do before I get there! So if you're interested in the life of an artist or just on supporting me in my work, it's the perfect place for you! For a long time it was 'The Divine Praises' (the painting of a monstrance with the prayer in the background), but more recently it's my two still lives on prayer; 'The Call to Prayer' and 'Memento Mori' since those are heavy in symbolism and I'm just really proud of how I painted them technique-wise.
The Call to Prayer consists of a Breviary, bell, and undyed cloth symbolizing the life of a religious monk/nun, and a call for us to join in their prayer, dedicating more of our life to God. While Memento Mori consists of a skull, empty hourglass, black cloth, and wood symbolizing mortality, with the white box and gold cloth symbolizing Heaven, and the path to it - God (the Bible).

But as a secret plot twist, my true favorite paintings are the ones I'm still working on: the Traditional Latin Mass for Children book I'm illustrating for Kimberly Fries (@mylittlenazareth on Instagram), but they're not done yet. And prayer. Lots of prayer. My business isn't called Outpouring of Trust for nothing. There's a whole lot of trust

involved every step of the way, and a whole lot of prayer, from concept sketches to prints at your door. It was and intricate art that I enjoyed for a long time, but my interest in it waned over the last few years.
I can't tell you how excited I was to find this simple Jesus Tree Family Lent Devotional from Elizabeth Clare in the Lent 2020 Catholic Mom Bundle . I have been looking for something just like this to do with my family through Lent. It's simple. All I needed to do was print and go. I did something with it that wasn't mentioned, but it will make it so much easier for me to implement this come Ash Wednesday.

I cut the little reading guide strips out and placed them all in our Bible so it's ready to go each day of Lent! If I do nothing else with my family this Lent, I will feel like we at least journeyed with Jesus.
<span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What I love about these books:

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I've always been drawn to beautiful things, especially books! I love Adalee's style and can't wait to get a hard copy of her picture book to read with my children. They are very aware of beauty and often exclaim to me how wonderful or particularly gorgeous something is. I know this book will be a treasure in our library to inspire them to lift their hearts to God and ponder His goodness. I am impressed that the Light of Heaven book has a matching coloring book to go along with it. We love to color together and it's one of the main ways we celebrate feast days along with a special tea. This will certainly add richness to the way we celebrate and study the saints.

St. Padre Pio is one of my all time favorite patrons! I love to ask his intercession before I go into
confession. Did you know what an amazing confessor he was?
The Free Coloring Page:

I love to color as part of my reflective prayer time. The saint and scripture quotes I make coloring pages for hopefully will help you reflect and ponder the goodness of God.
The popular quote of St. Padre Pio "Pray, hope, and don't worry" is comforting. There is so much in this life to get worked up and worried about. Sometimes we need a little reminder that in our prayers
we must surrender that "worry" part over and have hope in God's love for us.

Simply save the image below and then you can print it out.

As a busy mother I wanted something very simple to help me contemplate the stations of the cross.

This book was my solution. Beautiful painterly images are paired with simple verses from my favorite Lenten hymn the Stabat Mater. The book has a short introduction followed with a large picture of each station of the cross and a verse from the hymn. There are blank notebook pages in the back of the book with a place to write down prayer intentions or record reflections and inspiration. It's not a book specifically for Lent so my hope is that it will be something one can use throughout the year to reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for us and to encourage us to offer up our suffering to Jesus through our Blessed Mother.

Well Advent is almost here whether you are ready or not! Here is my annual Advent calendar for the kids. If you have the Activity pack from last year there are no new saints, but I have added additional pages this year: Epiphany, the Holy Family, nativity gift tags, a template letter to Baby Jesus, and the bonus of an updated easy to read St. Andrew's Christmas Novena card. You can pick it up in my Etsy shop here.
1. YES Dec 8th is a Holy Day of Obligation even though it's Saturday. It might be helpful to look at your church's Advent schedule and see what times they have set aside for Mass. If they offer a vigil, going Friday night for Immaculate Conception and then Sunday Morning or afternoon for your Sunday obligation may be a pleasant way to spread it out.

2. My lovely friend Ginny at Not So Formulaic has written this beautiful Mass Journal for moms. This Advent, one of my goals is to pay better attention in Mass as I am busy keeping an eye on my children. The older girls are pretty great now in Mass, but golly that two year old! I am hoping to kick start my Advent this weekend with Ginny's book Until I Rest in You. You can pick up a copy at Amazon or buy a digital download from Not So Formulaic here.
3. I have really wanted to jump on the Jesse Tree train because I feel it is a tangible way of unfolding Salvation History for children. I stumbled upon this beautiful Jesse Tree printable from Marginalia Books and it's only $4!!!!! It only lists the reading and you need to look them up but can be a great activity to help kids become more familiar with the bible. Make it special by lighting a candle as you break open the Word of God and read from the Bible together.
Although this devotional is written with the military woman in mind, it's a great resource for moms like me because it is written beautifully simple. The little hand in the picture is my toddler and I don't have a lot of time to spend reading, but I desire to be nourished and fed at a pace that fits my station in life at the moment.

I love how Anni organized this devotional with a meditation on the theme of each week in Advent and then how she lays out every day simple and to the point: Readings, Reflection, Prayer, and Action.

One of my favorite parts is the little call to action at the end of each day's reflection. Sometimes you just need a little push to get going or to think of how to put into action your faith. I know I get stuck at times in the rut of survival just saying my go to prayers and making sure everyone is fed and reasonably content at the end of the day.

She wanted something talking about the Eucharist and giving with space for families to write down what they were thankful for. So here it is a coloring page for you to write down what you as a family are thankful for. Hint: use the big space in the leaves to write your grateful sentiments! Ultimately our greatest gratitude should be Jesus in the Eucharist giving us life!
Thousands of moms are getting together online for an exciting conference-- The Pass It On Catholic
Conference 4 Moms . Why is this so exciting? Because moms are taking the lead to do the most
important thing for our church today, strengthening our families. As the Great Saint John Paul II said,

'As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.'

The Pass It On conference with 15 popular presenters will challenge parents to consider what they are
passing on to their children, and they don’t mean treasury bonds or property. Each speaker makes a
strong case to consider a topic or “item” to place into their children’s proverbial backpacks as they
prepare to make their journey through life to adulthood, a journey that will ultimately lead to God.

The topics cover a wide variety from the basics such as, Good Manners by Lindsay Schlegel and
Healthy Eating Habits , by Katie Kimball, to deeper understanding of concepts like Forgiveness by
Celeste Behe and what it means to be truly Chaste by Lisa Mladinich.

Popular Mom writer, Danielle Bean and everyone’s favorite Holy Land tour guide, Steve Ray give you glimpses inside their family life along with their favorite suggestions for how to pass on Learning and Joy to your children.

The first step along this path that both parents and children need to cultivate is Prayer , by Heather
Johnson. This leads to helping your children Trust in God , by Tami Kiser, and to develop a Relationship with Mary, by Marge Fenelon. Thank God, for the Sacraments , by Allison Gingras for practical, real spiritual help in all of these matters.

Finally, to help your children along their path to God, you need to pack away Love in the Family , by
Colleen Duggan. Let’s not forget to get the whole Community , by Cam Fradd, involved. Spouses
especially need each other in this task. Even recent studies show us how important a Strong Marriage , by Kathleen Billings, is for children.

As children get older, they must start to make this journey their own by developing their Teenage Faith , by Michele Houmis and Gabe Lewis. Keith Kiser, adds that giving your children appreciation and experiences of Wonder and Beauty will allow them to always be open to find their way to God.
Join with thousands of other moms as we all consider these weighty matters.

The online conference is free Oct. 10-15. You can sign up anytime at www.CatholicMosaic.com.

If you’d like “more” out of the conference, the presentations are available along with over $150 of free bonuses for Catholic moms, in the More 4 Mom Package .

Love. Love yourself and your kids and all of those around you.

So I was trying to pick a saint quote for January to illustrate for a free coloring page and I kept coming across St. John Bosco. This quote really stood out to me "Without confidence and love, there can be no true education. If you want to be loved…you must love yourselves, and make your children feel that you love them." -St. John Bosco I love it because as a momma I need to remember to love myself and above all let that love spill over to my children. How many of us really focus on loving ourselves and by this I mean set time aside to pray & rest

There are a few other quotes I absolutely love because I think that as a parent I have a special duty to educate my children. And this isn't primarily focusing on a home education although that is something I am appreciative that we can provide. We have the duty to teach our children about God and help them develop a well informed concience.

"If we want to have a good society, we must concentrate all our forces on the Christian education of the young. Experience has taught me that if we wish to sustain civil society then we should take good care of the young."-St. John Bosco

Whether you send your children to school or home educate, one hour a week at Religious education is not going to make the cut for a decent Christian education. This is something we need to work on daily and not just squeeze in around the time of Sacraments. Take time to talk to your children about their faith.

To share the faith with our kids, here are some things we love to do and maybe you can try them too:

1) Read the Bible & Catechism together and then have discussions about it.
2) Read about the lives of the saints and celebrate their feast days.
3) Reinforce and act out lessons learned from the 10 Commandments and Beatitudes.
4) Make regular confessions
5) Pray together as a family other than at meal time!

"If young people are educated properly, we have moral order; if not, vice and disorder prevail. Religion alone can initiate and achieve a true education."-St. John Bosco

I think we can just look around and see the affects of the lack of properly educated children in this world. This is quite self evident.
Do you have a child who really soaks things up visually? Well I do, and here in this post I'll share with you some of the videos on Amazon Prime that help enrich our studies. We take full advantage of our Prime account and it is quite amazing all that comes included at no additional cost with a Prime membership! Besides the free shipping we have access to a plethora of videos and music. You can make a play list from Prime Music of classical composers to accompany your day or add videos to your watch list to enrich the subjects you are covering.

Here is a short list of some prime videos we have enjoyed, take a look at them and then explore from there on your own. All you need to do is search for a subject in Prime video. I usually do this on my computer ahead of time so that the videos I want the kids to watch are all cued up and ready to go.

Well would you look at that! This year Valentine's Day falls on Ash Wednesday. How are you supposed to celebrate when you need to be fasting? My kids are in shock that we won't be indulging in candy. I am going to share with you my thoughts with five hopfully helpful tips to navigate this situation.

1. Celebrate the night before with a St. Valentine Family Party. This could be blended nicely with a Mardi Gras / Shrove Tuesday celebration. You could make heart shaped pancakes, decorate and exchange cards. I was thinking about putting a little twist on a King cake by using a heart shaped cake pan like this one Nordic Ware Elegant Heart Bundt Pan

3. Host a St. Valentine Dance the night before. (Great for older kids and the grown ups too)

2. Just becuase you won't be feasting on Ash Wednesday doesn't meant you can't show a little love in other ways. Showing how you care for others is a great way to prepare for Lent. Doing small acts of kindness for family and friends is perfectly appropriate even making and exchanging cards. This would be a fantastic time to talk about Jesus and how much he loved us by giving His life for us. I have an old post with a free crucifix Valentine printable here.

4. While some of the littlest ones may not be fasting, you can put out something simple with lunch or for snack. Cut strawberries in half to look like hearts. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts from silices of cheese and other veggies or bread. You can cut baby carrots and cherry tomatoes diagonnally and place them together in the shape of a heart.

5. Make a simple veggie love soup for dinner and possibly serve it up with some simple home baked bread like ones you can find in this e-book Kneadlessly Simple: Fabulous, Fuss-Free, No-Knead Breads

What are some of the ways you observe Ash Wednesday?

We had a priest once who prefered complete silence after reception of the ashes, this included no gathering afterwards like soup etc. I really like the opportunity to collect in silence, a kind of centering as we enter the Lenten Season. I liked this little tradition and hope to continue with the Ash Wednesday silence as I try to tune out the world and be with God. There of course is only so much tuning out you can do with a bunch of kids, but I plan on making Ash Wednesday a no device kind of day and keep activities down to minimum.

What does family prayer in your house look like?

At our place it is kind of broken up through out the day. We try to give our mornings to Jesus with a simple prayer upon waking, then continue with prayer at meal times, usually have a more formal time of family prayer in our living room next to our family prayer space (this is the time we attempt our family rosary or any novenas we are saying), and lastly good night prayers and holy songs while being tucked in.

Do you have a special prayer space set aside?

Ours is strewn around in the family room with the library close by. On an old desk we have angels, a crucifix hanging on the wall, and an image of the Sacred & Immaculate hearts. On another wall we have a large relief sculpture of Mary and Jesus under which all our rosaries hang. I love looking around our home and always being reminded to lift my heart to God when I gaze upon sacred images.

This year we wrote letters to Baby Jesus on the Eve of St. Nicholas Day. Even though that day has passed, any time during Advent is a great time to write a letter to Baby Jesus and ask for the intercession of St. Nicholas. Here are three helpful tips:

1. Praise. For a little kid this may be: Good Baby Jesus you are so awesome!

2. Petition. Tell Jesus about the things in life you love/desire and also the prayers you have for others.

3. Thank. Thank Jesus for his goodness and for listing to the things on your heart.

Of course your letter doesn't have to look like that but it's a great formula for prayer to cultivate in little ones.

Here is the free template you can print out.

This is a busy time of year! There is a lot going on. So what are the things your family loves to do to help keep the focus on "you know who"? The who that this season is all based around, Jesus our king, the one we patiently anticipate!

I am jumping ahead here with and text above becuase it's fitting for today, the Feast of Christ the King. Jesus should be the joy of all our hearts and I pray this advent we can all focus on the coming of Christ our King.

Here are a few ways my family likes to prepare in Advent and they may also help you celebrate.

1. Make prayer a priority this Advent. You can do simple daily prayer and a great way to do that is with the St. Andrew Novena starting on Nov 30th and ending at Christmas. Also saying prayers when you light your advent candle or praying the O Antiphons the week leading up to Christmas.

2. Decorate and set up an Advent wreath with candles. Now is a great time to decorate but maybe instead of getting all the Christmas things out, you could bring out the greenery and use purples and pinks for Advent.

3. Find little ways to keep your focus on Jesus with caring for others. There are many ways your family can serve others this season. Check out this cute Advent Angel printable I have that is a little game to play to pass the time away
4. Celebrate the saints during Advent. A great way to focus on Jesus is getting to know the friends who loved him so!

5. Who doesn't love some Christmas music? Well, there are quite a few seasonal songs that focus on anticipating Christ's arrival instead of jumping the gun and celebrating it, like O Come Oh come Emmanuel. I have an Advent playlist going on Amazon Prime and with prime you get to listen to loads of free music. Well one list is just a bunch of different versions of O Come O Come Emmanuel!!!
