Family Prayer Time, a Book Review, and a Giveaway!

What does family prayer in your house look like?

At our place it is kind of broken up through out the day. We try to give our mornings to Jesus with a simple prayer upon waking, then continue with prayer at meal times, usually have a more formal time of family prayer in our living room next to our family prayer space (this is the time we attempt our family rosary or any novenas we are saying), and lastly good night prayers and holy songs while being tucked in.

Do you have a special prayer space set aside?

Ours is strewn around in the family room with the library close by. On an old desk we have angels, a crucifix hanging on the wall, and an image of the Sacred & Immaculate hearts. On another wall we have a large relief sculpture of Mary and Jesus under which all our rosaries hang. I love looking around our home and always being reminded to lift my heart to God when I gaze upon sacred images.

A Book Review: The Catholic Family Book of Prayers.

*I was given a free copy of the book to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Catholic Family Book of Prayers is a Peanut Butter & Grace book published by Gracewatch Media and you can easily pick up a copy for your family on Amazon.

This is a beautiful prayer book that our family is thrilled to add to our collection. It is packed full of lovely prayers and oragnized so neatly, and the perfect companion for a busy family. I love how the prayers are grouped together and the section on prayers to Our Blessed Mother is so lovely.
Every family should have a copy of this book of prayers! I reviewed the paperback edition and while it is very well made and of nice quality, I feel like getting the hardback book becuase I am envisioning daily use! I am drooling over the special handbound book edition available through the Gracewatch Media website!!!

  1. Right now the kids are so small that prayer life with them is mass and also daily night time prayers.

    1. That is perfect. One time I had an old priest in confession that asked me if I prayed at night. He said no matter what even if you can't mutter a prayer at least make the sign of the cross as you go to sleep and that will be pleasing to God.

  2. Nightly prayer time. What we are thankful for, our prayer intentions, Hail Mary, what we are sorry for, and blessing each other with holy water.
Ending with hugs and “I love you”. We also try to do a morning offering, but with the kids waking up at different times it’s sometimes way past morning till we get to it.

    1. How beautiful! I love the idea of blessing each other with holu water at night. Since the kids were little I would wake them and we would simply look at the crucifix and I say Jesus I love you, I give you my day. I have kids that wake up at different times too so first thing in the morning usually doesn't happen together, but the start of the school day is a good place for us to pray together!

  3. I wish we had a more dedicated spot in our little house. But as it is we have sacred art in almost every room. (Every room if you count out "Bad Catholics" guides in the bathroom. ;) The hope is that these constant reminders might help us pay throughout the days.

This is such a great giveaway. Thanks for the chance!

    1. I love love sacred art in every space. When we were married I had a wedding registry of holy things so we could fill our house and library. My goal was a crucifix for every room :)

    1. Welcome, and I am so glad you are home in the church! The nice thing about your prayer life is that you can water and tend it over time, developing a beautiful garden of prayer.

  5. It's pretty healthy (but, as always, could be better)... daily Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, my hubby does a LOT of spiritual/Catholic/Bible Reading. We started back to back Divine Mercy Chaplet Novenas at the beginning of the Year of Mercy, praying the DMC together daily...and we are continuing this. We alternate who names the intentions for the next nine days. I love doing this with my sweet hubby. Thanks and God Bless! ILuvTheEucharist @ aol dot com

    2. Our family prayer life is usually based around meal times and night time, including Daddy blessing kids before bed. Those that have received the sacraments of Penance and Communion are reminded to examine their conscience and review their day when they go to bed. When they have trouble sleeping, we recommend praying another rosary. My husband and I try to pray the Liturgy of the Hours throughout the day, but are not as consistent as we'd like yet. Days go better when we do though!

  8. We say prayers together at bedtime. I love Advent because we say them with our candles lit at the table, instead of in bed. It makes the kids more solemn and likely to behave!

    1. We also try a family rosary, but have slacked since we got a new foster child and my husband started a new job. One of my goals for the new year is to intentionally set aside time to pray more!

  11. Love this giveaway and all the shops in it!

We pray mainly at night and at meals. We do a little more at home during advent, lent, feast days, high holy days & Marian months. Since my girls are getting bigger - I’m working on doing the rosary more with them.

My girls and I built a little prayer kneeler/bookshelf combo. All of our bibles and books of a religious nature are on the bottom shelf, we have a holy water font on one side, the girls have rosaries, their veils and other items in trays on the top shelf. On the top we have a diy “stained glass candle votive” and this really cool glass sacred heart Jesus and a runner. It’s moved a few places - I would definitely like to move it to a more permanent “corner”.

  12. We pray together at meal times and at bedtime. My kids are young, 2 and 4 years old, so we are slowly trying to add more as they’re able to understand and keep attention.

    1. Have you seen those pretty little crochet roses some crafters make? They come in sets of 10 and are meant for a hands on way for little ones to pray with you while you say the rosary. One thing I have learned is that my little ones soak up everything even if I don't think they understand.

  13. Honestly, our family prayer life needs a LOT of work. We manage to say grace fairly frequently and occasionally say a decade of the roasary together. I want to do more, to establish more with the kids. I've been feeling a lot of guilt over it.

    1. Don't feel guilt. Every family is in it's own place. The fact that you want to do more is a beautiful start, give it to Jesus and He will give you the grace you need grow!

  19. Our prayer life needs some Holy Inspiration. We consistently pray before meals together, but that's about it (family wise). I would love some ideas for something simple but meaningful that is do-able with young ones. A family rosary daily would be amazing, but I don't see my 21 mo making it through.

  20. It looks like the kids and I praying our way through days with prayer pegs at waking, meals, when we hear ambulances, when we first get in the car, etc., plus other random times, Mass, Holy Hour, and more. :)
